Film...:)

I'm going to share my opinion about film. Again.
I went to the cinema. Was watching "Last station". It's about Leo Tolstoy, the last period of his life. To tell the truth, I went with the prejudice...

But, have to confess, I have impressions, but, again, this "But" - they are double-sided.
So, what I liked
1) The image of Leo Tolstoy.
2) The landscape. It was really Russian
3) The music. Especially balalaika sounds:)
4) James McAvoy's playing. Actually, he's one of my favourite actors.
5) And. Really affective final scene of the movie.

What I DIDN'T like
1) The way how director showed us Tolstoy's wife Sofya Andreevna Tolstaya. She was like crazy, hysterical woman there.
2) The daughter of Leo Tolstoy. How Rebecca said: "She was evil".
3) The pronunciation of Russian names was incorrect. They might work it out.

Al in all, I'm glad I watched this film, it's great opportunity to wake up the interest to Tolstoy's works.
After watching this movie I decided for myself that I have to read Valentin Bulgakov's diary. And Tolstoy's diary as well.
Thanks, Rebecca!

"Edward Scissorhands" and "La haine"

First of all I want to thank our teacher of Film studies Caroline. She shows us corking films! If
she wouldn't show us them, I won't never guess to watch them. So, I'm very thankful to her.

I watched "Edward Scissorhands" a couple of days ago, we did analyze work of one episode. Every shot of this "sad fairytale" is just amazing. In my opinion, Tim Burton and Johnny Depp is one of the most charismatic tandem of our days. I was quite interested in film, so I came home and watched it. The movie really "touched" me. And I opened Johnny Depp. Seriously. I didn't even realized how gifted he is. Of course, I knew that he's talanted, but never paid attention.

There're a lot of different thoughts were coming to my mind, but the main was how people hate when somebody excels from the society. During all film the character of Johnny Depp was called disabled, but they were using the virtuosity oh his scissorhands... And Winona Ryder is awesome playing her role. By the way, Johnny Depp used only 196 words during the film, but his eyes expressed everything: pain, love, courage, kindness, embarassment and etc.

So, if you have free time - it's really worth to watch it

And another film we watched today is "La haine"( Hate). It's really violent, in black-white colours. But it's true-to-life. Paris from another side, without love in the air, tourists and etc. Instead of it there are international poor marginal society, skinheads, hate, poverty and... frienship... The agression shown in this film predicted the events of future 1o years in France.

I was surpried when I knew that the director of this film is Mathieu Kassovitz. For me he was at first as Nino Quincampoix in "Amelie". So opposite genre. But the fact, Kassovitz won Cannes festival for "La haine". He was 27 years old. And I think the director chose black-write colours for purpose. I think he wanted to give us impression of "daily grey routine" of this people.

Three persons. Different nationalities. But one friendship. The end was quite shocking for me. And it's up to you. You decide the end. The slogan of film is " Three young friends... One last chance..."

Connections between subjects

One of my teachers in Russia once said: "You have to find connections between subjects. It will work for you." And I think there's no need to find them, because they're everywhere.
For example, my Friday school day was all about language. On TOK lesson we were talking about the power of language. And I must confess, after our funny experiment of being BoomBoom ant etc, I was pretty happy that I can clearly explain my thoughts and feelings. But beside of the words exist a lot of kinds of communication, I would even call them languages. For me one of the most important is language of the eyes. Through the expression of eyes we can guess people's feelings and eyes tell us the truth. All we know eyes are mirror of the soul.

And gestures? So many books were written about hidden signs. There're a lot different "languages"... Just open your soul to them and you'll see. hear and feel.

But back to connections. After TOK I had lesson of English literature. We were talking about distortion of the words. Actually, it made me think about what we would do if some words just dissapear from our lexicon?

Language is your right to speak, your freedom to express yourself. The language is the pride of every nation, the symbol of independence...
I truly believe that we're lucky to impove ourselves by reading books, watching films and speaking with charismatic people . There're so many interesting words! Why should we restrict ourselves?

Welcome!

Hedonists want to be free, not tied down, confined of be obligated, to do as they wish, to enjoy today, to be impulsive, to have a life of action which repudiates long term goals, objectives or planes, to be active just to be active, to do what they feel urge to do, to experience exitement, to be seen by others as being free to act, as free spirits, to be exciting, optimistic, cheerful, light-hearted, and full of fun (Kiersey).

Warning: I don't support this philosophy in some items:)
